RESIDENTIAL TRASH SERVICES

Where do I place my carts on pickup day?

Place the cart(s) in the street against the curb, but do not block a marked bike lane. The arrow on the lid should face the street and the cart handles should face your house. Place the carts at least three feet away from other carts, extra trash, parked cars, fences, trees, mailboxes or any other obstruction. Click here to see other options for cart placement in the Can/Cart Placement section of the Residential Services page.

What time should I have my carts out for collection?

To ensure pickup please have your materials out by 6:00 a.m. or the night before. Even though we try to be consistent, different circumstances may affect the collection schedule, such as weather, traffic, mechanical breakdowns, or holidays. To better serve you, we occasionally reroute our trucks to improve route efficiency. As a result, your pickup time may vary.

Reminder – All carts must be removed from curbside by midnight on your pickup day due to local ordinances.

Is there a charge for extra trash?

If you have more trash than is included in your service level, you will be assessed an extra charge. Anything not completely inside the roll cart or next to it is considered extra garbage and will be charged for. This includes overflowing roll carts where the lid is not completely closed. It is the customer’s responsibility not to overstuff the garbage container to ensure that material will fall freely out of the container

Large items such as sofas, mattresses, and appliances can be collected but are only picked up on a specific schedule. There are specified charges for large item pickup. Call our office at (541) 607-2042 to get pricing for these items.

Why am I charged for extra trash but not credited when my trash is less than my service level includes?

You are paying for a set service level. The majority of our cost, approximately 75%, is getting to your location to provide the service to your home. You pay for this service even if your containers aren’t completely full. Those weeks when you exceed this amount, you are charged extra. In this sense, trash service is like your cell phone service –  you pay for so many minutes a month, whether or not they are used, for a monthly fee and a per minute rate after you use your set level of minutes — even if you didn’t use them all in prior months.

Also, our drivers make over 3,500 stops per week. It would be impossible for them to remember who was and wasn’t using their full service each week. If you regularly have extra trash or are not filling your cart each pickup, you may want to call our office at (541) 607-2042 to see if it would be beneficial for you to change your level of service.

How is my collection schedule effected if the is a holiday during the week?

We only observe the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas (no other holidays affect your schedule).

If your collection day falls on or after the holiday during the week, your pickup will be one day later that week, ending with Friday’s pickup being done on Saturday. Click here for more information about our holiday schedule.

What do I do if my trash, recycling, yard debris of glass is not picked up?

If your service is missed or you forgot to put your carts out, please call our office at (541) 607-2042 or email us so we can return to empty the carts. In some cases a return trip charge may be added to your account.

Can I get an extra pickup on a different day than my normal service day?

Yes. Please call us at (541) 607-2042 for information regarding the charge for this service. We require 24-hour notice to set up a special collection. Special collections can be scheduled Monday through Friday.

RESIDENTIAL RECYCLING SERVICES

When will my recycle and yard debris carts be picked up?

To ensure pickup please have your materials out by 6:00 a.m. or the night before. Even though we try to be consistent, different circumstances may affect the collection schedule: weather, traffic, mechanical breakdowns, or holidays.

The red bin is used for glass (must be rinsed) and motor oil (must have screw top lid and be 1 gallon size or smaller). A separate truck will pickup bins of glass.

Can I leave flattened cardboard outside my recycle cart?

If you have a recycle cart, you should breakdown all small cardboard and place it in your recycle cart or break it down and place under the lid of your cart. If you have larger pieces of cardboard, they must be flattened and cut down to 3 x 3-foot size and stacked next to your recycle cart.

All non-recyclable packing material should be disposed of as trash.

May I bag my recyclables?

No, as they are a contaminate and cause problems for the sorting machinery at the recycle facility. All loose recycling materials must be placed in your cart or bin. If you regularly have  more material than will fit into your cart, please call our office at (541) 607-2042 to discuss options.

Is Styrofoam recyclable?

No, not in our curbside collection program. Some items like Styrofoam packing peanuts can be reused at local shipping business, but larger block Styrofoam cannot be recycled and must be taken with trash.

What can go into my yard debris cart?

Only the following items can go into the yard debris cart: lawn clippings, leaves, brush, tree trimmings & branches. Plastic, garbage, dirt, rocks, sod, lumber or pet waste are NOT allowed in cart and cart lid must close completely for collection. Click here to see instructions for the yard debris service.

What do I do with long limbs or branches?

Branches must be less than 3 feet long and less than 4 inches in diameter to be able to be taken in the yard debris cart. The yard debris carts cannot be emptied if long items are sticking out of the top and the lid is not closed.

If you are unable to get the branches in small enough lengths, please call our office at (541) 607-2042 to discuss alternate pickup options.

Why do you charge me for extras, but you don’t give me credit when I don’t use my full-allowed level in other weeks?

You are paying for a set service level. The majority of our cost, approximately 75%, is getting to your location to provide the service to your home. You pay for this service even if your containers aren’t completely full. Those weeks when you exceed this amount, you are charged extra. In this sense, trash service is like your cell phone service –  you pay for so many minutes a month, whether or not they are used, for a monthly fee and a per minute rate after you use your set level of minutes — even if you didn’t use them all in prior months.

I’m cleaning up my garage or have a special project, what are the options for getting rid of the extra trash?

Here are a few options to your big clean-up problems:

  • Put extras out on your regular trash day. For a reasonable charge, your regular driver is always willing to take large trash bags and smaller items at the curb. If you have more than 7 bags, please call us at (541) 607-2042 to authorize the extra charges.
  • Schedule a bulk pickup. We send a trash truck to your house or business and make the pile go away. This option is perfect if you only have a few large items.
  • Rent a temporary container. We place a 3- or 4-cubic-yard container at your house or job-site and you call us when you want it emptied. This option works especially well when you know the project will generate small volumes each day for several days and/or you have limited space for a container.
  • Request a drop box. Available in 15-, 20-, or 30-cubic yard sizes, a drop box is for the biggest of jobs; like doing a roof or demolition job. You’ll need a large space to put it—roll-offs are approximately 20 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 6 feet high.

How do I dispose of sharps, needles, or lancets?

Sharps can NOT be placed in your garbage. Oregon State law mandates proper storage and disposal of used sharps. Sharps include needles, lancets, and syringes. Sharps must be stored in approved bio-hazard containers (milk jugs and coffee cans are not safe or acceptable for sharps storage).

  • Contact Lane County Waste Management – (541) 682-4120

  • Check with your physician or veterinarian if they prescribed the medication.
